About the Engineering Office
Dr. Dieter Eberlein Lichtwellenleiter-Technik was an engineering office in Dresden specializing in consulting and training in the field of optical fiber technology. Its range of services included seminars on fundamentals, splicing technology, metrology, dispersion, WDM/DWDM and FTTx as well as in-house training courses and joint seminars for beginners and advanced participants. In addition, the office imparted specialist knowledge on fiber-optic measurement methods such as backscatter measurement (OTDR), dispersion measurement and high-precision fault localization in fiber-optic cables, and published technical books and technical brochures, among others on backscatter measurement. Technical foundations included, among other things, studies on typical attenuations of fusion splices on standard single-mode glass fibers (ITU-T G.652.D) and bend-insensitive fibers (ITU-T G.657.A1). The owner, Dr. Dieter Eberlein, a graduate physicist, ran the office for almost 30 years until his death on 24.11.2025; the website was shut down at the end of 2025.
