About FAULHABER
Dr. Fritz Faulhaber GmbH & Co. KG is a supplier of high-end miniature and micro drive technology headquartered in Schönaich (Baden-Württemberg). The company manufactures small and smallest DC motors – including motors with the patented FAULHABER winding (self-supporting, ironless rotor coil) – as well as brushless DC motors, motors with integrated electronics, stepper motors and linear motors. The product range is complemented by precision gearheads (planetary and zero-backlash spur gearheads), linear actuators, encoders (incremental and absolute), drive electronics and accessories such as brakes and electronic filters. In addition to standard products, FAULHABER develops and produces modified and customer-specific drive systems, which account for around 45 percent of production. In terms of materials, copper is mainly used for the windings, synthetic resin for impregnation, permanent magnets and iron for the magnetic circuit, and copper-graphite commutation. Customer industries include medical and laboratory technology, industrial automation and robotics, metrology and test engineering, aerospace, optics, semiconductors and motorized handheld devices. The headquarters comprises 22,000 m² for production, logistics and administration with approximately 600 employees; further development and production sites are located in Switzerland, Hungary and Romania, complemented by sales and production companies worldwide.

Materials & Processes
Copper
Winding wire of the self-supporting ironless rotor coils (FAULHABER winding).
Synthetic resin (thermally bonded impregnation)
Stabilizes the diagonally wound rotor coil against the centrifugal forces occurring during rotation.
Permanent magnetic material
Stator magnet, placed inside the ironless rotor coil for a compact design.
Iron
Rotor core, commutation and magnetic circuit; the iron housing closes the magnetic circuit.
Copper-graphite commutation
Commutation technology since 1973, used among other things in computer printers.
