About Ecalia
Ecalia is a start-up venture from Stuttgart developing a scroll compressor with built-in energy recovery. The compressor is intended for energy-saving heating and cooling in residential and vehicle applications and is designed to enable energy savings of up to 20 percent. The refrigerant used is R290 (propane), an environmentally friendly and efficient alternative to conventional refrigerants. The fully adaptive scroll compressor automatically adapts to different operating conditions, compensates for ageing effects, and thus ensures efficient and reliable performance over a long period of time. Development is AI-supported, with Ecalia creating its own tools to accelerate development and quality assurance. The project is funded by an EXIST start-up grant together with the University of Stuttgart and the IKT – Institute of Polymer Technology; prototypes are manufactured on an in-house CNC machine. Ecalia is seeking R&D cooperations and pilot tests with manufacturers, especially from the heat pump industry.
