About Edelstahlwerk Ossenberg
The Edelstahlwerk W. Ossenberg & Cie. in Altena is a family-owned company and describes itself as Germany's smallest integrated steelworks. For over 100 years, its approximately 70–75 employees have melted, forged and machined steel and transformed special materials. In the company's own melting shop, steels are produced for cold, hot and high-speed work as well as stainless, acid-resistant and heat-resistant grades in more than 700 material qualities – as special analyses from a charge size of approx. 1.4 t, either conventionally or as ESR (electroslag remelting) quality. The company's own forge forms the material in coordinated rolling schedules into round, square, plate and disc formats with block weights of 300–2100 kg; in contract forging, customer-supplied blocks and semi-finished products made of high-alloy stainless steels and high-performance materials such as nickel- and cobalt-based alloys, superalloys as well as alloys of copper, titanium, vanadium, niobium and tantalum are formed up to a maximum of 5000 kg. In addition, the company offers material-specific heat treatment, machining (turning, peeling, milling, grinding, sawing, blasting) and a toolmaking operation for forming tools, HATEBUR press tools, hydroforming tools and components for mechanical engineering. Customers come, among others, from the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, hot and cold forming and the refractory industry.
