About EMTO GmbH
EMTO GmbH was founded in December 2017 as a spin-off of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Department of Chemistry, Großhadern campus) and specializes in energetic materials. The company develops and synthesizes primary and secondary explosives, propellants and pyrotechnic compounds, including lead- and chromium(VI)-free REACH substitutes as well as nitrogen-rich heterocycles such as tetrazoles and triazoles. The service portfolio covers molecular design and synthesis at laboratory scale (< 5 g), scale-up to the kilogram scale using continuous micro-flow reactors and 5-liter reactors, sensitivity and safety testing (drop hammer, friction, ESD, Koenen steel-sleeve test) as well as comprehensive analytics (SC-XRD, NMR, MS, FTIR/Raman, calorimetry). In addition, EMTO offers consulting, court-admissible expert reports, thermochemical simulations, raw material procurement, disposal under § 7 SprengG (German Explosives Act) and laboratory automation. Customers include defense companies, space organizations, authorities, universities and pharmaceutical companies. The synthetic and analytical work takes place in the Munich-Großhadern laboratory; the management is based in Munich.
