About Engelhard Arzneimittel
Engelhard Arzneimittel is a family business from Niederdorfelden in Hesse, now run in its fifth generation, specialising in the development and manufacture of herbal medicines (phytopharmaceuticals). The company is the manufacturer of the Prospan product family for the treatment of cough and bronchitis, which is based on the specially developed ivy special extract EA 575 made from ivy leaves (Hedera helix). At its own site in Niederdorfelden, the active ingredient is extracted and various dosage forms are produced, including cough syrup, cough liquid in bottles and stick packs, pastilles and effervescent tablets. A dedicated research department conducts basic research and clinical studies; in 2003, the company's scientists decoded the mode of action of the active ingredient alpha-Hederin. The products are exported to over 100 countries and documented in five languages (German, English, Turkish, Arabic, Russian). All Prospan medicines are manufactured in Germany.
