About EVD Diez

Entwicklungsgesellschaft für Verbundmaterial Diez (EVD) mbH was founded in 1990 as part of the Tetra Pak Group and is regarded as the inventor of the material Tectan®, a composite material made of paper and polyethylene. From residual materials of the beverage carton industry (coated carton waste), the raw materials are shredded, dried and processed into granulate in a specially developed process; the granulate consists of 100 % secondary raw materials. Using injection moulding, EVD manufactures from it sleeve plugs (chocks) for stabilising winding cores for paper rolls as well as edge protection angles for transport securing in industry, logistics, shipping and warehousing; in addition, press plates made of Tectan® are offered. Since 1997 the company has been owned by its employees. Production takes place in a 1,680 m² production hall in Diez (Rhineland-Palatinate) with several injection moulding machines; customers such as large paper mills in Sweden are supplied directly by rail. Photovoltaic systems on the production and storage hall covered around 41 % of electricity demand in 2025, supplemented by 100 % certified green electricity and a corporate environmental management system.

Material Tectan® and Process

Tectan®

Paper/polyethylene composite material

Patented material made of 100 % secondary raw materials (coated carton waste), dimensionally stable and impact-resistant; mechanical properties: tensile strength 18 N/mm², flexural strength 24 N/mm², density 1.02 g/cm³.

Papier

Paper (recycled paper from beverage carton residual materials)

Main component of Tectan®, predominantly from production waste of the beverage carton industry.

PE

Polyethylene

Composite component of the carton composite, giving the material dimensional stability and toughness.
