About eprotec

eprotec extrusion technology ag, based in Regensdorf (Switzerland), specialises in the development and manufacture of high-precision extrusion melt pumps (gear pumps). The modularly designed melt-X pumps relieve the pressure build-up at the extruder screw, reduce shear and pulsation and enable throughputs of up to 12.000 kg/h. Fields of application include plastics recycling, compounding, film, sheet/board and profile extrusion as well as rubber extrusion. In addition to manufacturing new pumps, eprotec offers conversion, inspection and overhaul of gear pumps – including competitors' products – including cleaning by vacuum pyrolysis, condition assessment and assembly, plus service, spare parts and special coatings against abrasion and corrosion. Pump components such as shafts and plain bearings are manufactured in the company's own plant using modern 5-axis CNC production methods from high-tech materials. The company supports projects from planning to commissioning from a single source and is a worldwide partner for consulting, support and commissioning.

Materials & Processes

ST

High-tech materials for pump components

Various combinations of high-tech materials are used for the modularly designed melt-X pumps, depending on the application.

GLL

Plain bearing materials with emergency running properties

Plain bearings with good emergency running properties and a long service life are a core feature of the pump components.

BS

Coatings against abrasion and corrosion

Special coatings – also for the complete pump – provide protection against abrasion or corrosion.

PO

Polyolefins

Polymers processed in the recycling environment, among other things as part of the blendymer© development.

GUM

Rubber

Used in rubber extrusion, e.g. tension rubber strips and dirt traps with gear pump.

History

  1. 1987

In the late 80s and 90s, the team commissioned hundreds of extruder units with gear pumps, optimised them and initiated front-end developments.

  2. 1999

Foundation of eprotec with the goal of a completely new melt pump development based on state-of-the-art calculation methods.

  3. 2000

After almost one year of testing and optimisation: first order – installation of the new pump components (shafts, plain bearings) in a gear pump 70 in a recycling application.

  4. Development of the specialities: replacement of rubber extruders with pressure-building gear pumps as well as participation in the development and manufacture of blendymer© (post-consumer recycling of polyolefins).
