Innovative Electronics Partner for Industry

esd electronics gmbh develops and manufactures hardware and software for industrial automation with a focus on customer-specific solutions. The product portfolio includes CAN and CAN FD interfaces for USB, PCI, PCIe, M.2 and other form factors, EtherCAT hardware and software stacks, gateways and bridges to PROFIBUS-DP, PROFINET and EtherCAT, I/O modules, network technology as well as plug-in card systems for VMEbus and CompactPCI and CPU boards. In addition, drivers, software stacks (including CANopen, J1939, ARINC 825), board support packages and applications for real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, QNX and OS-9 are offered. Series production is carried out in cooperation with OEM partners; the final function tests are performed in-house, for which most of the test systems are developed and programmed by the company itself. Customers come primarily from the automotive, mechanical engineering, medical technology and aerospace sectors. Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Hanover, the company employs around 60 staff there and sells its products worldwide directly and through distributors.

Technologies and Bus Systems

CAN/CAN FD

CAN, CAN FD, CAN XL

Fieldbus technology with high data integrity; esd has been active in the CAN field since 1990 and is a founding member of the CiA.

EtherCAT

EtherCAT

Real-time Ethernet protocol according to IEC 61158 for control systems with many distributed I/Os and cycle times below 100 µs; hardware and software development since 2008.

VMEbus

VMEbus

Proven multi-master plug-in card system in the 19" format for applications with high reliability requirements such as Transrapid, ISS and Galileo.

CompactPCI

CompactPCI / CompactPCI Serial

Plug-in card system in 19-inch technology with passive backplane for high requirements on robustness and fail-safety.

PMC/XMC/AMC

Mezzanine Cards (PMC, XMC, AMC)

Expansion modules for VME and CPCI systems, e.g. for CAN, EtherCAT and Ethernet or as a CPU assembly.

RTOS

Real-Time Operating Systems and Software Stacks

Drivers, BSPs and protocol stacks (CANopen, J1939, ARINC 825, EtherCAT) for VxWorks, QNX, RTX, INtime, OS-9, Linux and Windows.
