About ESK-SIC

ESK-SIC GmbH is a German company in the silicon carbide industry and a manufacturer of high-quality raw silicon carbide (SiC) with a significantly improved CO₂ balance. The core of the offering is the patented RECOSiC process, which was developed jointly with Fraunhofer IKTS and patented worldwide in 2021. The recycling process recycles by-products of the Acheson process, by-products of SiC processing, and SiC-containing industrial waste, converting them materially into SiC crystals with a purity of over 98%. The material properties of the recycled products are identical to or improved compared with commercially available products from the traditional Acheson process. The Acheson process requires around 7.15 MWh of electrical energy and causes about 4.2 tons of CO₂ per ton of raw SiC, whereas material recycling produces less than one ton of CO₂ per ton of SiC. The construction of the company's own production facility, the RECOSiC factory, is being subsidized with 30 million euros by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union.
