About the Deanery
The Evangelical Lutheran Deanery of Castell is a church district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria (ELKB) and belongs to the Ansbach-Würzburg church circuit. The district comprises 17 congregations with around 10,000 members in the north-east of the district of Kitzingen and the south-west of the district of Schweinfurt. The territory largely corresponds to the historic County of Castell, in which Luther's teachings were introduced in 1545. The deanery is not a manufacturing or industrial organization, but a church administrative unit without production, materials or product-specific value creation. The seat is located at Kirchplatz 3 in Castell. Since 29.11.2025, Martin Voß has been managing dean; from 01.01.2027 the new church circuit of Franconia will come into force, and mergers of deaneries with neighbouring districts are planned.
