About EXXOSQEL
EXXOSQEL GmbH, based in Gössenheim (Bavaria), develops and produces a surface treatment for glass that repairs mechanically damaged surfaces and increases strength by up to fivefold. The process heals near-surface micro-cracks formed during cooling and hot forming at the molecular level through covalent bridge bonds, while simultaneously creating a barrier against environmental influences; the brilliance and haptics of the glass are improved. The treatment can be applied inline during production or offline in cold-end processing and can be integrated into both new and existing production lines. The process is applicable to all silicate glass types, in particular flat glass, thin glass up to 2 mm (not thermally toughened) and container glass such as reusable bottles. The strength increase allows glass thickness to be reduced, saving material, energy and transport costs while preserving recyclability. The industrialization of the technology originally developed under EXXERGY is being carried out via EXXOSQEL, among other things within the government-funded GreenSolarModules project with pilot plants for spray and roller coating.
