FAW Austria Automobile R&D GmbH is the European subsidiary of FAW Jiefang Group, a leading Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer with products ranging from light, medium and heavy trucks, founded in 2019. The company, based in Steyr-Gleink, Upper Austria, is dedicated to research and development of commercial vehicles as well as the development of future transport solutions. Its fields of activity include product planning, functional safety and systems engineering, as well as the development of electrical/electronic architectures (EE architecture development). In terms of subject matter, the company covers light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles as well as new energy vehicles and special-purpose vehicles. It is an R&D site without its own production; vehicle production takes place at the parent group in China. The company is part of the global network of FAW Trucks, which also includes other European R&D sites such as FAW MUNICH R&D GmbH.
