About FERNRIDE
FERNRIDE is a company founded in 2019 in Munich, emerging from vehicle technology research at the Technical University of Munich, that develops a Ground Autonomy platform for logistics automation. The core product is a Vehicle Kit that converts conventional trucks, terminal tractors and yard trucks into autonomous vehicles via retrofit or factory installation – consisting of drive-by-wire actuators, redundant computing units, all-weather sensor systems (LiDAR, radar, cameras) and emergency stop systems. The platform combines autonomous vehicles with human remote supervision (Human-Assisted Autonomy) via Operations Control Stations as well as a Management Suite for task, traffic and fleet management with open API interfaces to logistics IT. Use cases include container terminals, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, defense logistics and, in the future, open-road trucking. The TÜV SÜD certified ATT system for container terminals is the first certified system of its kind in Europe. Customers and pilot partners include DB Schenker, HHLA, Volkswagen and KAMAG; in 2025 the company was acquired by Quantum Systems.
