About Ferriere Cattaneo
Ferriere Cattaneo SA is a family-run Swiss steel processing company founded in 1870 and headquartered in Giubiasco (Ticino). Originally established as a forge with a drop hammer in Faido, production today spans three main areas: freight wagon construction with over 5000 wagons built in 30 different types since 1948, structural steel and metal construction, and the machining of gas turbine components, which accounts for around 50% of total revenue. Referenced major projects include the Leibstadt nuclear power plant and CERN in Geneva. The company works predominantly with steel and holds certified welding competence according to ISO 3834-2. Customers come from the rail vehicle, energy and nuclear technology sectors.

Quality & Certifications
Manufacturing is carried out under certified processes, in particular welded steel structures according to ISO 3834-2. Further standard-specific approvals (H1 SN 505 263/1, CL 1 DIN EN 15082-2) complement the quality system in rail vehicle and structural steel construction.

History
- 1870
Antonio Cattaneo builds the first drop hammer in Faido, powered by the water power of the Piumogna; production of tools for local needs.
- 1870+
Under the leadership of his son Angelo Cattaneo, the company supplies machines for the construction of the Gotthard railway.
- 1932
Fausto Cattaneo buys the former site of the Lenz operation in Giubiasco; Faido is supported until the 1950s, with structural steelwork added.
- ca. 1950
All production is consolidated at the Giubiasco site.
- 1948
Start of freight wagon production; since then over 5000 wagons in 30 types.
- Ende der
Participation in two major structural steelwork projects: Leibstadt nuclear power plant and CERN Geneva.
- 1985
Aleardo Cattaneo takes over management; production is structured into three main areas: freight wagon construction, structural steelwork, gas turbine components.
- 1991
First machining of gas turbine components; today around 50% of total revenue.
