About FIM Friedland Industrial Minerals
FIM Friedland Industrial Minerals GmbH is a manufacturer of specialised products from smectite-rich clay minerals for environmental engineering, geotechnical and hydraulic engineering, and agriculture. The company operates its own mining field (Friedland Siedlungsscholle 2, 300 ha) with an in-house open-cast mining area of 58 ha and extracts up to 1,800 t of raw material per day. The approx. 65-million-year-old, marine-genesis clay from the Eocene (montmorillonite-muscovite-illite interstratified mineral) is classified and processed at Plant I Salow, and ground and dried at Plant II Friedland using a Pfeiffer triple dryer and a roller bowl mill (grinding fineness up to 80% > 40 µm). From own raw material and imported high-quality bentonites, mineral building materials, catalysts, binders and adsorbents are produced, including swelling clay sealing granulates for well and tunnel construction, landfill sealing and ordnance detection. As feed additives, E558 Bentonite-Montmorillonite and 1g557 Montmorillonite-Illite are registered; uses include mycotoxin adsorbers in livestock farming.

Raw Materials & Processes
Bentonite-Montmorillonite
EU-registered feed additive, used as a mycotoxin adsorber in livestock farming.
Montmorillonite-Illite
Feed additive under DVO (EC) 1964/2016.
Friedland clay (smectite-rich)
Montmorillonite-muscovite-illite interstratified mineral from the Eocene as an own raw material.
Imported high-quality bentonites
Complement the own raw material for environmental building materials, catalysts, binders and adsorbents.
Grinding-drying
Pfeiffer triple dryer and roller bowl mill, grinding fineness up to 80% > 40 µm.
Activation/compaction processes
Production of powerfully swelling pellets and sealing granulates (grain size 5-16 mm or 1-5 mm).
Injection processes
Production of pastes with FRIEBO DRY for backfilling of exploratory boreholes.
FIMONIT SEAL (kf upgrade)
Upgrading of existing mineral masses with typical improvement of kf 10-6 to 10-10 to 10-11 m/s.

Quality
Quality begins in the open-cast mine: the extraction field is sampled before extraction and tested against stringent quality requirements. Raw materials and products are continuously analysed by external, state-accredited laboratories; the entire operational process follows the GMP standard incl. HACCP.
