About Fines Mundi
Fines Mundi GmbH, based in Saarbrücken, is a publishing house specialized in reprints of historical books with its own book manufactory. The company carefully reissues selected works from old libraries, archives and antiquarian dealers as true-to-the-original facsimile reprints – from travel literature, view books and military history to art and architectural history, and on to the history of technology, natural history and manuscripts. The entire production takes place in-house: after title research and clarification of copyright issues, the source materials are digitized with a scanner specially developed for books that is particularly gentle. The raw data is then optimized on the computer and, after a passed test print, transferred to the digital printing press; printing is done on age-resistant, acid-free book printing paper. Cover design and bookbinding are handled by the in-house bookbindery, which works in the tradition of a family-owned craft business of more than 100 years and, when required, also produces its own marbled and paste papers. Print runs are based on pre-orders; since the data is archived electronically, even the smallest print runs are possible.
