About Fluglicht
Fluglicht is a project of the engineering office Jüstel from Braunschweig that is developing a patent-pending exoskeleton technology for flapping flight. The concept envisages an exoskeleton for arms and ankles that detects joint movements and transfers them to a pair of robotic flapping wings and control surfaces on an exoskeleton backpack. The wings are driven by geared electric motors; all reaction forces are reflected back to the exoskeleton, so that the pilot feels the aerodynamic forces. The goal is the most direct flight experience possible, modeled on bird flight. The project has been on hiatus since 2025 due to insufficient funding; the website documents the final state of work for reuse by third parties. There is no manufacturing operation in the industrial sense.
