About the Umweltstation Lias-Grube
The Umweltstation Lias-Grube is an environmental education center in Eggolsheim-Unterstürmig (district of Forchheim, Bavaria), run by the non-profit Förderverein Umweltstation Lias-Grube Unterstürmig e.V. The outdoor grounds are a 17-hectare former clay pit used as a nature experience area with learning stations such as a reed-bed wastewater treatment plant, fossil slope, orchard meadow, biotopes and nature discovery trails. The center offers an environmental education annual program for children and adults, holiday programs, guided tours and projects for school classes and kindergartens, as well as professional training in environmental pedagogy. During the winter months, the team conducts learning workshops in schools and daycare centers, covering topics such as energy, climate, nutrition and consumption. For groups, 72 sleeping places in ten heated wooden and clay huts, seminar rooms, kitchens (self-catering house) and facilities for meetings and celebrations are available all year round. The Umweltstation receives financial support from the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection and is a site of the nationwide educational project Klima-Kita-Netzwerk (project region South).
