About the Michael Haberland Glassblowing Workshop

The Michael Haberland glassblowing workshop in Lauscha (Thuringia) produces figurative Christmas tree ornaments made of glass in traditional craftsmanship. Production has been running since October 1991, initially in a home workshop, and since 1998 in the purpose-built glassblowing workshop at Kreuzstraße 18. The products include hollow glassblowing (mouth-blown Christmas tree ornaments) as well as free-formed solid glass sculptures at the glassblower's bench over the gas flame; traditional old German glassblowing moulds from Lauscha are used, including porcelain moulds from four generations of family ownership with well-known models such as the Lauscha glass birds. The finishing process includes silvering, painting and glittering. The product range includes glass birds and owls, glass figurines, glass animals and glass shapes; distribution is via an online shop for private customers and a trade catalogue for business customers. Since 1998, visitors have been able to watch the production live at demonstrations.
