About the Forschungsbrauerei
The Forschungsbrauerei Jakob in Munich-Perlach was founded in 1930 by Gottfried Jakob, who researched new beer varieties and brewing processes using experimental methods and received more than 50 patents for them. In 1936, the new brewery building was constructed with a solid-copper brewing system in the tower, as well as the Bräustüberl as a "testing station" where guests could judge the beer. In 1950, the beer "research" was discontinued; the brewery remained in existence as a family-run craft business, and since 2021 the craft brewery Hopfenhäcker has been located in the building, using its own brewhouse, while the copper brewing system of 1936 is preserved as a protected industrial monument. Beer is brewed on site by hand – beers such as Pilsissimus, St. Jakobus, Die Wahre Weiße, Der Rote, Handgehopfter, Easy Rider (non-alcoholic) as well as seasonal and experimental brews. In the reopened Bräustüberl under innkeeper Waseem Tufail, the home-brewed beers and specialties of the Hopfenhäcker craft brewery are served, complemented by Bavarian cuisine with vegetarian and vegan dishes, a beer garden, and events for up to 250 people. The location at Unterhachinger Straße 78 in 81737 Munich-Perlach is named after it, easily reachable via the Perlach S-Bahn station (S5) and with its own parking lot.
