About FKM

The Research Curatorium for Mechanical Engineering (FKM) is a registered association founded in 1968, based in Frankfurt am Main (Niederrad office). It bundles and coordinates pre-competitive industrial community research (IGF) for mechanical and plant engineering. Under the umbrella of the FKM, there are eight legally independent research associations, six research communities and funds, and fifteen VDMA specialized associations organized within the IGF. The FKM supports cross-industry research projects and entry projects on topics such as Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence, calculation procedures, materials, and sealing technology. Around 3000 member companies, 90 percent of which are SMEs, provide personnel, knowledge, and testing facilities and gain access to the shared research results. The FKM is a member of AiF and VDMA and issues its own guidelines, including the FKM guideline 'Computational Strength Assessment of Mechanical Engineering Components'.
