About the Fränkisches Brauereimuseum
The Fränkisches Brauereimuseum in der Bierstadt Bamberg e. V. is a non-profit association that operates a brewery museum in the former Benedictine monastery brewery on the Michaelsberg in Bamberg. On around 1,000 m² of exhibition space in the historic vaults, over 1,850 exhibits on the history of beer brewing are displayed. The authentic sections comprise the brewhouse, malthouse, fermentation and storage cellars, ice cellar, cooperage, filtration, and barrel and bottle filling. According to a charter of 1122, the brewing site on the Michaelsberg was already endowed with brewing rights; brewing operations were discontinued in 1969 after almost 850 years. The museum was founded in 1979 by 32 master brewers as a support association and is run on a voluntary basis. It offers guided tours, beer seminars and tasting training as well as an audio guide, and serves as an information centre on the subject of beer in the region with the most breweries in the world.
