About Franz Schamberger
Franz Schamberger GmbH is a German manufacturer of grinding technology for industry and trade, headquartered in Heiligenroth (Westerwald) with its own production facility in Montabaur. Since 1954, the company has produced vitrified-bonded abrasive bodies: honing stones (bench stones), dressing stones for diamond tools, honing stones for honing and lapping, jointing stones for woodworking, sharpening files and grinding wheels. The bond is a ceramic mixture of clay, kaolin, feldspar and glassy frits, fired at around 1,000–1,350 °C. The abrasives used are silicon carbide as well as corundum and white fused alumina made from pure aluminium oxide; grit sizes 20 to 800 follow the FEPA standard DIN 69101, and hardness grades range from F to P (usually N/O). The products are suitable for grinding steel, cast steel, tool steels, stainless steel, cast iron, carbide and ceramics as well as non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, copper and bronze. Customers come from the automotive and wheel industry, the metal and tool industry, the glass, ceramics and wood industries, and from tool distributors. In addition to the standard range, custom-made products are manufactured from 30 pieces, including mounting of handles, individual marking and packaging.

Materials & Processes
White fused alumina (aluminium oxide)
High hardness and brittleness, cool grinding; preferred for highly alloyed and hardened steels with tensile strength above 50 kg/mm² as well as for soft materials such as copper and aluminium.
Silicon carbide (SCD/SCG)
Used in honing stones, dressing stones and sharpening files, e.g. grit 24 in the dressing stick DE0G-400.
Vitrified bond
Mixture of clay, kaolin, feldspar and glassy frits, fired at approx. 1,000–1,350 °C; chemically insensitive and with unlimited shelf life.
Grit sizes 20–800
Classification from very coarse (20–46) to very fine (320–800).
Hardness grades
From soft (F) to hard (P); standard version usually N/O.
