About the Technology Museum
The Technikmuseum Freudenberg is run by the association Freunde historischer Technik Freudenberg e.V. and presents the industrial history of Southwestphalia. Its centrepiece is the steam engine No. 817 built by Möller in 1904, which was first used in mining and from 1937 ran at the Nöll glue factory on today's museum grounds. It stands in an annex of the machine hall at its original location and is connected via transmissions to a machine workshop with around 20 historic machines as well as a forge. On all opening days and during guided tours, the steam engine and workshop are set in operation; forging demonstrations take place on the first Sunday of every month. The outdoor grounds feature, among others, two steam hammers by Schleifenbaum & Steinmetz, an internal mixer by Harburg-Freudenberger and a 3.62 m long crankshaft by BGH-Edelstahl. The museum is a member of networks such as WasserEisenLand, the Südwestfälische Eisenstraße and Tatort Technik, and operates the PepperMint learning workshop as an extracurricular learning venue for primary schools.
