About us

Fritz Böhning GmbH Möbelwerkstätten in Bad Essen-Linne near Osnabrück was founded in 1936 as a small joinery and developed into a craft business and long-standing partner of the furniture trade. For over 25 years, the manufacturing focus was on solid wood furniture for living, dining and sleeping areas in contemporary design, country-house style or classic oak furniture styling. Production was carried out in craft-based small-series production entirely from solid wood – including back panels and drawer bottoms – in the wood species European oak from German forests, heartwood beech, beech and walnut. Surface treatment (oiling, waxing, lacquering, staining, lye treatment, brushing) was carried out in-house. In addition, custom solutions and interior fittings for private living as well as furniture for daycare centres were produced. Together with the Sentinel-Haus Institut, a particularly low-emission product line was developed. According to the website, production has now been discontinued; the company now offers consulting only.

Wood species and surfaces

Oak (European)

Main wood species, primarily from German forests in Hesse and Lower Saxony; also used for the low-emission product line in kiln-dried, untreated form.

Heartwood beech

Heartwood timber from the centre of the trunk with pronounced grain for furniture surfaces.

Beech

Same wood species as heartwood beech but without the heartwood area, used in furniture manufacturing.

Walnut

Used for furniture programmes, oiled or mattified, with or without sapwood content.

OEL

Oiling/Waxing

Surface build-up with furniture oil containing linseed oil or an oil-wax combination, repairable.

PUR

Lacquering/PUR sealing

Mattified lacquer or two-component sealer as a resistant lacquer film.

LAUG

Staining/Lye treatment/Brushing

Special colour tones to customer samples, lye-treated versions and brushed surfaces, all in-house.

Quality

Craftsmanship by skilled joiners shaped the furniture; wood moisture and swelling/shrinkage behaviour were taken into account in the design. For the low-emission line, test chamber analyses (VOC, formaldehyde) were carried out with the Sentinel-Haus Institut.
