About Schneider Weisse
G. Schneider & Sohn GmbH is a Bavarian family brewery headquartered in Munich with its brewery in Kelheim, specialized in the production of wheat beer under the Schneider Weisse brand. The company was founded in 1872 by Georg I. Schneider, who was the first commoner to be granted the right to brew wheat beer. The brewery in Kelheim traces back to the ducal wheat beer brewery founded in 1607 by Duke Maximilian I of Bavaria, which the Schneider family acquired in 1928. The beer is brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law with four ingredients: wheat and barley malt from the region, hops from the Hallertau, water and Schneider yeast. The beers are traditionally produced with open primary fermentation and, for many varieties, with genuine bottle fermentation. The range comprises around a dozen beer specialities, from the hefeweizen to the wheat doppelbock Aventinus and the eisbock. With around 100 employees, approximately 250,000 to 300,000 hectoliters of beer are produced annually, of which around 25 percent is exported.
