About us
Gärungschemie Dessau GmbH is a long-established chemical company in Dessau-Roßlau whose roots go back to the Dessau Sugar Refinery founded in 1871. Since 1913, molasses was fermented and alcohol produced at the site. Today, the core business is the production of the pharmaceutical excipient ESMA-SPRENG/Formalin Casein (methylene casein), a water-insoluble casein-based tablet disintegrant offered in fine and superfine grades. The main raw material casein is sourced from German dairies. Another business field is the revitalization of ethanol production (grain-based alcohol) as well as the purification and concentration of technical alcohol. In addition, the company leases and rents out on an approx. 30 ha site real estate, warehouses, workshops, storage tanks and containers with capacities of 30 m³ to 5000 m³ as well as measuring equipment and a rail weighbridge. The company is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 and has met the requirements of the Eco-Audit Regulation since February 2000.
