About Gammel Engineering
Gammel Engineering GmbH, headquartered in Abensberg with a branch office in Cham, is an independent engineering consultancy that has been developing and planning energy engineering and building services engineering for over 35 years. Its range of services includes complete planning of technical building services (MEP) across all HOAI service phases 1–9, energy and plant engineering, utility systems (ventilation, plumbing, HVAC), electrical engineering/control and instrumentation (MSR), as well as BIM-based design in Revit 3D. Key focus areas are biomass heating plants, district and local heating networks including routing and network hydraulics, large-scale heat pumps, combined heat and (cooling) power, geothermal energy, power-to-heat and sector coupling with PV, electrolysis and hydrogen storage. In addition, the company prepares feasibility studies and energy efficiency concepts, performs construction supervision and project management including funding management, as well as construction-accompanying surveying. Customers include energy utilities, municipalities and municipal utilities, industry and commerce (e.g. Zollner Elektronik AG, REWAG AG, Infra Fürth), social institutions and residential construction.

Energy Sources and Systems
Wood chips
Fuel for biomass boilers in heating plants such as Neutraubling (2 × 550 kW) and Zandt (2 × 1.2 MWth).
Biogas
Energy source generated on-site and used in the heating system of the LfL site Grub.
Sawmill residue / wood waste
Regional fuel for biomass heating plants, including in Grub and Zandt.
Natural gas
Fuel for CHP units and gas turbine solutions, e.g. 2 × 3.4 MWel in Bad Reichenhall.
Landfill gas
Low-calorific gas for heat generation at the Infra Fürth heating plant on Vacher Straße with around 1,000 t of CO₂ savings per year.
Hydrogen (H₂)
Seasonal storage in the sector coupling concept PV–electrolysis–re-electrification at the Prinz-Leopold barracks in Regensburg.
Ammonia (refrigerant)
Refrigerant of the groundwater heat pumps with 1.5 MW thermal each in Bad Reichenhall.
Plastic jacket pipes (KMR)
Pipe system with leak monitoring for district heating routes, e.g. over 15 km in the Unterschleißheim project.
