About Garmin

Garmin was founded in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Dr. Min Kao in Lenexa, Kansas, and develops and manufactures GPS-based navigation technology as well as wearables and electronics systems. The company pursues a vertically integrated business model: product design, manufacturing, distribution and warehousing take place in its own facilities from the first concept idea through to series production. The portfolio includes GPS smartwatches and fitness trackers, marine electronics such as chartplotters, autopilots, radar and sonar, avionics such as the integrated G1000 and G5000 flight decks, and automotive OEM modules such as domain controller computers for BMW. More than 22,000 employees in 37 countries serve the five core markets of fitness, outdoor, aviation, marine and automotive OEM. The global headquarters is located in Olathe, Kansas; the first manufacturing plant was opened in 1990 in New Taipei City, Taiwan. In Germany, Garmin Deutschland GmbH operates in Garching near Munich (HRB 167959, Munich District Court).
