About Schlappeseppel
The Gastwirtschaft Schlappeseppel at Schlossgasse 28 in Aschaffenburg is regarded as the oldest inn in the city and is centrally located between the collegiate church and the palace. The listed building houses the former brewhouse of the Schlappeseppel brewery, founded in 1803 with an electoral brewing licence, whose brewing operations ended in 1978. Today the OC-Gastronomie GmbH runs the traditional inn with Franconian and Bavarian cuisine, menus, buffets and events. Since 2011, Faust beer and craft beer from the Faust brewery in Miltenberg have been served instead of Heylands beer. The former brewery building houses a brewery museum with historical equipment such as copper vats, pumps, filters and wooden barrels as well as a pilot brewhouse; guided tours can be booked through the inn. According to legend, the inn tradition dates back to 1631, when the soldier Joseph Lögler, the 'schlappe Seppel', brewed beer for King Gustav Adolf of Sweden.
