GBS mbH, with the UPGATE division, is located in Haan in North Rhine-Westphalia, where it develops, manufactures, and installs vertical door air curtain systems for entry and passage areas of buildings and halls. Unlike conventional air curtains, the UPGATE system uses existing room air instead of conditioned air: A side-mounted column with a vertically arranged blower creates effective climate separation for door widths up to 2500 mm while requiring a drive power of maximum 1.5 kW, compared to up to 40 kW for conventional systems. According to the provider, this saves up to 90 percent of the energy compared to classic door air curtain systems, with typical payback periods of less than two years. The scope of service includes consulting, planning, and setup and installation, which can be completed in a single workday—for both new constructions and existing properties. Customers include cold storage facilities and warehouse logistics companies, as well as Munich Airport, whose CO2 emissions were reduced by more than 1,000 tons annually through the installation.
