About Gebr. Hartkopf
Gebr. Hartkopf is a forging company in Solingen that specialises in precision drop-forged parts. Its value chain covers design, in-house toolmaking, splitting of bar steel, drop forging on belt drop hammers and a hydraulic hammer, deburring, heat treatment, shot blasting, sizing/calibration, as well as machining and inspection. The main materials used are C45, C60 and 31CrV3. Originally the company produced blanks for knives and later blanks for scissors; today it supplies customers from a wide variety of industries, including manufacturers of pliers and professional-grade hand tools. By sizing/calibration, the forging tolerance of 0.4 mm is reduced to 0.1 to 0.2 mm depending on customer requirements.

History
- 1872
Foundation of the company by the brothers Carl and August Hartkopf.
Initial production of blanks for knives; later a shift in focus to blanks for scissors.
Further transformation towards hand tools and parts for general mechanical engineering.
