About the Sawmill
Gebrüder Hosenfeld is a fifth-generation family company based in Hosenfeld in Hesse, between the Vogelsberg and the Rhön. The company specialises in sawing the softwood species larch, Douglas fir and pine, harvested in the region's outstanding growing areas. In the modern sawmill, sawn timber is produced flexibly to customer requirements, including special dimensions – from squared timber to decking boards. On site, the wood can be further refined: in the company's own drying kilns, through planing, and in the attached carpentry shop, which builds roof structures, dormers, halls and timber frame construction of any scale. Sawmill by-products are utilised in an integrated manner: sawdust is processed into EPH energy pellets, wood chips fire a biomass power plant that generates green electricity and supplies heat for the drying process. Customers include the timber trade, the further processing industry and, regionally, the craft trades.
