Tuchfabrik Mehler since 1644
Gebrüder Mehler GmbH was founded in 1644 in Tirschenreuth and is run in the 11th generation as a family business by Paulus and Ludwig Mehler. As Germany's last fully integrated textile company, the firm produces fabrics from yarn to finished cloth: spinning, weaving, dyeing, fulling, raising, finishing and decatizing all take place at the headquarters in Tirschenreuth. Products include Loden fabrics, uniform and authority fabrics, eco textiles, interior fabrics as well as finished home textile articles such as blankets, curtains and cushions; additionally specialty items such as protective clothing, conveyor belts and polishing discs. Materials used include virgin wool, merino wool, alpaca, cashmere, camel hair, mohair as well as polyamide and waxed cotton. Spinnerei Forst GmbH (Lausitz), acquired in 2005, supplies yarns and threads into the in-house production cycle as a subsidiary. Customers include B2B business clients with individual pricing, just-in-time delivery and white-label products; Mehler fabrics have been used, among others, in European royal households and in film productions.
