About Geofabrik

Geofabrik GmbH was founded at the end of 2007 in Karlsruhe by Jochen Topf and Frederik Ramm and specializes in the preparation of free geodata, in particular the data of the OpenStreetMap project. The company extracts, selects and processes geodata and creates shapefiles, maps, map tiles and complete web mapping solutions from it. Its range of services includes consulting, training in German and English, custom software development based on open source, and the setup of tile servers, geocoding servers (Nominatim, Photon), routing servers (OSRM, GraphHopper), WMS and Overpass servers on customer-owned or rented hardware, including failover configurations and load-balanced clusters. With Geofabrik Downloads, the company operates a widely used platform for free regional OpenStreetMap data extracts worldwide; in addition, paid server services and hosting are offered as a web service. The team consists of active members of the OpenStreetMap community; customers include companies from geoinformation/GIS, transport and logistics, public transport as well as authorities and emergency services. The company is headquartered at Amalienstraße 44 in Karlsruhe; it is a member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation and a supporter of OpenStreetMap Germany.
