About German eFuel One
German eFuel One (GEF1) is developing the first commercial methanol-to-gasoline (MtG) plant in Germany in Steyerberg, Lower Saxony. In this process, methanol is converted catalytically into synthetic gasoline that is intended to meet the requirements of the European fuel standard DIN EN 228 (RON 95, E10). The planned plant is designed for approximately 57,000 t or 75 million liters of synthetic gasoline per year; commissioning is scheduled for 2029. GEF1 thereby covers the upgrading step from methanol to gasoline within a Power-to-Liquid process chain. The technology used is the CAC METHAFUEL® technology of CAC ENGINEERING GMBH, which was developed jointly with TU Bergakademie Freiberg and has already been proven in a large-scale pilot plant. The energy concept provides for comprehensive heat integration as well as the energetic utilization of process and by-product streams, so that heat and electricity demand in steady-state operation is to be largely self-supplied; additional electricity demand is to be covered by wind and solar energy. Synthetic gasoline is to be supplied to customers from the automotive and fuel industries for existing mobility applications.
