The company was founded in 1945 by Friedrich Gerstacker as a spirits distillery in Fürth and relocated to Nuremberg in 1962; industrial mulled wine production began in 1965. According to the company, the range comprises more than 600 products, including winter drinks such as mulled wine and punch, summer drinks such as ready-to-drink cocktails, berry wines and seccos, as well as liqueurs and cider. Winter drinks accounted for around 60% of revenue in 2018. According to media reports, Gerstacker is the world market leader in the production of mulled wine and held a market share of 80% in Germany in 2016. Production and bottling take place in Nuremberg and in Crossen an der Elster in Thuringia; the company has been run since 2003 by Stefanie Gerstacker in the third generation.
