About the Gesellschaftsbrauerei Viechtach
The Gesellschaftsbrauerei GBV was a brewery in Viechtach in the Lower Bavarian district of Regen. It was founded in 1553 and received its present name around 1920, when several innkeepers of the region operated the brewhouse jointly. The product range included, among others, Vollbier Hell, Hefe Weizen, Alt Dunkel, Märzen, Festbier, Bergkristall Pils and Bock Dunkel. The beers were brewed with ingredients from Bavaria, fermented in open vessels and not filtered; they were bottled in crown-cap bottles as well as in beer kegs. In 2008, annual production amounted to around 20,000 hectoliters. After financial difficulties, the Gesellschaftsbrauerei filed for insolvency on 19 June 2024; operations ceased on 31 July 2024 after 471 years. Since then, the beers have been brewed and distributed by the Hofmark Brauerei.
