Gas detection technology from Dortmund – for over six decades
GfG - Gesellschaft für Gerätebau mbH, headquartered in Dortmund, has been developing and manufacturing gas detection devices and fixed gas detection systems for the protection of people, industrial plants and the environment for more than six decades. The product portfolio includes portable multi-gas measuring devices such as the Polytector III G999C, controllers of the GMA200 series, transmitters such as D-REX, EC22-O and IR22F as well as sensor systems of the Satellix brand. The offering is complemented by water measurement technology, such as the ion-selective ammonia measuring system MiniCal III and the VARIOCON measuring amplifier for pH, redox and chlorine measurement. Various measuring principles are used to measure flammable and toxic gases as well as oxygen, including catalytic combustion, thermal conductivity, photoionisation, zirconium dioxide, infrared, electrochemical cells and chemisorption. In addition to manufacturing, the company offers consulting and project planning, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, spare parts supply and training via the GfG Campus. Customers include semiconductor manufacturing, refrigeration technology, the chemical industry, the steel industry, energy suppliers, fire brigades and agriculture. According to its own figures, GfG invests around 13 % of annual revenue in research and development.

Measuring principles and sensor technologies
Catalytic combustion
Measuring principle for the cumulative detection of flammable gases and vapours in the range 0–100 % LEL.
Thermal conductivity
Measures toxic and flammable gases at high concentrations up to 100 vol.% independent of oxygen.
Photoionisation detection
Detects more than 300 volatile organic compounds, often below 1 ppm.
Zirconium dioxide oxygen measurement
Selective oxygen measurement from above 650 °C in the percent and ppm range with short response time.
Infrared measurement
Detects flammable gases and CO2 with low cross-sensitivity and long service life.
Electrochemical measurement
Selective measurement of toxic gases, O2 and H2 with high sensitivity and low energy consumption.
Chemisorption
Cost-effective principle with long-lasting sensors for flammable and toxic gases in vol.%, LEL and ppm.
ACDC Smart Communication Technology
Patented digital data transmission over existing 4–20 mA lines with Modbus up to 38,400 bit/s and over 1,200 m.
