About Gitterwerk
Gitterwerk GmbH is a manufacturer of transmission diffraction gratings for high-power and ultra-short-pulse (USP) lasers. The company was founded in Jena, a city with a long tradition in optics and photonics, and today produces at its own site in Magdala (Thuringia). The gratings are made from ultra-pure fused silica (100 % quartz glass) and coated with dielectric layers or AR coating; the diffraction efficiency reaches up to 99.5 %. Production uses a mask-based full-field exposure process that avoids stitching artifacts and period variations, with substrate sizes up to 135 mm in diameter (typical substrate thicknesses 3 mm and 6.35 mm). Production takes place in an ISO 5 cleanroom. The service portfolio covers individual grating design, application support and transfer to series and volume production. Applications include pulse compression of chirped-pulse-amplified lasers, beam combining as well as spectroscopy, the semiconductor industry, material processing and life science/medical technology. The GmbH is 100 % owner-managed and is led by Dr. Frank Fuchs and Dr. Lorenz Stürzebecher.

Materials and Processes
Fused Silica (ultra-pure quartz glass, 100 % fused silica)
Substrate material of the transmission gratings with high mechanical stability and a very high damage threshold.
Dielectric coating (all-dielectric)
High-quality dielectric layers including AR coating for maximum efficiency and lifetime compared to metal gratings.
