About GMD®

GMD® GmbH was founded in 2024 in Innsbruck and develops, manufactures and operates measurement technology and early warning systems for natural hazards. At its own hardware laboratory in Innsbruck, energy-autonomous Edge-IoT sensor technology is created for hydrological, meteorological and geotechnical measured variables such as water level, flow velocity, precipitation, vibration, acceleration, inclination and spring discharge; power supply is provided via solar and battery, and data is transmitted by radio to gateways. The edge AI in the sensor separates event patterns from interference signals, so that only relevant data is transmitted. The GeoSenseAI® software platform (4D-WebGIS) fuses sensor, weather and geodata, evaluates them jointly and triggers warnings when threshold values are exceeded. The portfolio includes monitoring for debris flow/torrent, flood, rockfall, slope movement, avalanche, wildfire and water resources as well as energy-autonomous radar people counting without a camera. In addition, autonomous drone docks with LiDAR and photogrammetry flight surveys, terrain models and digital twins are used. GMD® provides site analysis, measurement concepts and radio planning, installation, calibration as well as operation and maintenance under a rental model. Customers include municipalities and authorities, rail and road infrastructure operators, cable cars and tourism, water supply and energy, insurers, engineering firms and research institutions. Technology & Processes

Edge-IoT

Energy-autonomous Edge-IoT sensor technology

Hydrological, meteorological and geotechnical sensors with solar and battery power supply, edge AI pre-processing and radio transmission for sites without power and mobile network connections.

Seismik

Seismic sensors / geophones

Acceleration and vibration measurement on rock, masonry and protective structures, e.g. for rockfall monitoring.

Radar

Radar sensor technology

Energy-autonomous people counting without a camera, GDPR-compliant for visitor flow management.

Mesh

Radio gateway / mesh network

Gateway sites are planned based on topography; a self-healing mesh network of geophone nodes is under development.

UAV

Drone dock with LiDAR/photogrammetry

Stationary dock for autonomous flight surveys; terrain models, point clouds and orthophotos for hazard mapping and event documentation.

GeoSenseAI®

GeoSenseAI® software platform

4D-WebGIS for fusion of sensor, weather and geodata with threshold alerting and digital twin.
