About gravion
gravion GmbH is a manufacturer of embossing rollers, union roller sets and anilox rollers based in Rheinfelden (Baden). Founded in 2019 by Dietmar Buchholz, the company replaces conventional acid-based etching processes with direct laser engraving, which can also be applied to steel, hardened steel and HSS steel as well as copper and other materials. Production covers embossing widths of 50 to 3,600 mm, roller lengths up to 4.25 m, diameters of 42 to 510 mm and structure depths of 0.005 to 6 mm – positive/negative, positive/positive and point to flat. Manufacturing is complemented by special coatings to extend roller service life, test rollers, process-integrated 3D inline measurement and digital data production including 3D scans of existing designs. Customer industries include tissue, packaging, nonwovens, aluminium, automotive, leather/artificial leather, glass, paper, pharmaceuticals and wallpaper. Production takes place in a 2,000 m² competence center in Rheinfelden and a 1,500 m² facility in Ball Ground (Georgia, USA); a sales office is located in Kuala Lumpur. The family-run company supplies customers in more than 60 countries.

Materials & Processes
Steel
Base material for embossing rollers, directly laser-engraved, among other things for tissue and paper applications.
Hardened steel
For wear-resistant embossing structures, e.g. aluminium embossing in the automotive industry.
HSS steel
For extremely hard roller surfaces, e.g. in the stainless steel embossing industry; laser engraving after grinding.
Stainless steel
For embossing rollers of the stainless steel embossing industry in a wide range of roller sizes.
Copper
Base material for leather and artificial leather embossing as well as wallpaper designs.
Aluminium
For embossing structures in packaging, automotive and shielding applications.
Glass / acrylic glass
Embossing rollers for technical and design glass, depths up to 4 mm.
Plastic (PET, PVC, acrylic glass)
Basis for embossing in plastic sheet, panel and packaging applications.
Rubber, leather, artificial leather
Materials for embossing and test rollers, e.g. in the furniture and automotive industries.
Paper, tissue, nonwovens, release paper
Embossed materials for the tissue, napkin, wallpaper and paper industries.
Composite material
For embossing structures, among other things, in the gift packaging industry.
