About the Altstadtbrauerei

Griesmüllers Altstadtbrauerei e.K. is a small craft brewery in Ingolstadt's old town that has been brewing in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516 since 2020. Its range includes classic beers such as Schanzer Hell, Klenze Pils, Donau Weisse, Schutter Export and Kreuztor Pale Ale as well as seasonal specialties, produced without heat treatment and filtration. The raw materials come from the region: Jura barley from friendly farmers in and around Ingolstadt, hops from the Hallertau and karst water from Ingolstadt. Owner and master brewer Franz Rottenkolber ('der Bräu' Griesmüller), trained at Augustiner-Bräu Munich and awarded the Master Prize of the Bavarian State Government, personally oversees and controls the brewing process from raw material to glass. The brewery operates its own brewery taproom with snacks (Brotzeit) at Schulstraße 19 and also offers brewery tours, tastings and brewing courses. Keg beers in sizes from 10 to 50 liters are sold for pickup; the spent grains are passed on as animal feed to Ingolstadt farmers and to bakery Sengl for the production of spent-grain bread.
