About GRÜNZUCKER
GRÜNZUCKER GmbH, based in Berlin, is developing a patented saccharification technology that converts lignocellulose-containing biomass such as straw, harvest residues and wood by-products into bio-based sugars. These sugars serve as feedstocks for platform chemicals, bioplastics and bioethanol. Unlike enzymatic processes, the GRÜNZUCKER process works with concentrated acids at low temperatures, based on the historical Bergius process, which has been further developed and patented. The technology is feedstock-flexible, energy-efficient and low in chemicals, and can also be used in small, locally anchored plants. According to current planning, plants with around 15,000 t of biomass per year can be operated economically. The company is currently in the initial phase: the fundamentals have been developed, first partners from automation, plant engineering, measurement technology and funding consultancy are involved; the next step is the construction of a demonstration plant. Over the first ten years, the aim is to operate three own plants and license 35 plants.
