About GVG
The Zweckverband Gruppenwasserversorgung Vororte und Glattal (GVG) is a public-law corporation with its own legal personality, based in Glattbrugg. It ensures the water supply in 30 municipalities of the Furt and Glatt valleys and, with an annual water turnover of 10 to 12 million m³, is the largest group water supply in the Zürich region. Large-caliber transport pipelines with pipe diameters of 600 and 800 mm supply the local group water supplies and member municipalities with drinking water. The GVG does not own or operate any production plants of its own; the main water supplier is the Wasserversorgung Zürich (Lake Zürich), the second supplier is Stadtwerk Winterthur. Since the commissioning of the drinking water interconnection pipeline "Zürich–Winterthur" in 2012, security of supply has been increased. The organisation operates and maintains the transport pipeline network, carries out quality controls and ensures a 24-hour on-call service.

Water Quality
In 2025, the GVG carried out 20 control measurements in its pipeline network; the samples were tested bacteriologically and chemically by the Cantonal Laboratory, and all results were faultless. In addition, the water suppliers Wasserversorgung Zürich and Stadtwerk Winterthur ensure multiple quality controls.
