About GSG Solar

GSG Solar Berlin GmbH was founded in 2012 as a 100% subsidiary of GSG Berlin GmbH to lease roof areas and operate solar installations. In 2014, the company installed around 23,100 solar modules with a total output of 5.75 MWp on 39,300 m² of area on the roofs of 26 commercial courtyards in Charlottenburg, Kreuzberg, Lichtenberg, Marienfelde, Marzahn, Pankow, Tempelhof and Wedding, realizing one of the largest photovoltaic installations in Berlin. The system generates around 5 million kWh of solar power annually and saves approximately 2,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. The energy management strategy is built on three pillars: photovoltaic systems, combined heat and power (CHP) units, and charging stations for electric vehicles. The decentrally generated green electricity is supplied to up to 2,000 commercial tenants of GSG Berlin and used for the buildings' own power supply; the first electricity customer in 2015 was BIO COMPANY at the Skalitzer Straße location in Berlin-Kreuzberg. In this way, GSG Solar supports its real estate sister company GSG Berlin in the sustainable management of its portfolio of around 1 million m² of commercial space and contributes to Berlin's climate neutrality goal.
