About the manufactory
The Gürber Keramik Manufaktur is a one-woman business run by Sabine Gürber, who produces handcrafted ceramic tiles and stove tiles. All products are made by hand, from raw clay to the finished tile: the ceramic panels are formed in various sizes and thicknesses and decorated with glazes, engobes and oxides – in a retro, vintage, antique or contemporary look. Since every tile is handmade, colour and format differ slightly from one another; each piece is unique and can largely be tailored to customer requests. A second focus is the preservation of antique tiled stoves: the manufactory specializes in the restoration of so-called Tragöfen (stove bodies) and in particular produces tiles in the Art Nouveau style, partly as replicas cast from old relief tiles. In addition, custom-made pieces are produced from photographs, as well as architectural ceramics and art on buildings. The workshop is located in the Aarau area; during the pre-Christmas season, a peanut roasting machine is used seasonally.

Glazes
Glazes create the desired surface appearance of the handcrafted ceramics.
Engobes
Engobes are used for the coloured design of the ceramic surfaces.

Craftsmanship
Production is carried out entirely by hand; handmade tiles are deliberately not as precise as industrially manufactured goods – every piece is unique. For glaze retouching on restored stoves, heat-resistant colours as well as colour samples and test pieces are used to approximate old recipes.
