About Gumpert
Gumpert Aiways Automobile GmbH, headquartered in Ingolstadt, is a system developer for methanol fuel cell technology. The company develops the Gumpert Power Cell, a CO2-neutral drive system for the transport industry, especially for heavy commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes and above, buses and ships. The goal is qualification of the system for series use in vehicles of established commercial vehicle manufacturers; the company does not offer in-house vehicle manufacturing. The approach uses methanol as a liquid energy carrier at ambient pressure and temperature, so that existing refueling infrastructure can be converted with manageable effort. Founder Roland Gumpert, former Audi motorsport chief, previously founder of Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur in Altenburg, presented the RG Nathalie sports car with this fuel cell technology in 2018. In 2022, the company tested the technology in a delivery van.
