The Company
Gunvor Raffinerie Ingolstadt GmbH operates an oil refinery on a 128-hectare site in Kösching near Ingolstadt, around 80 kilometres north of Munich. Commissioned in 1963, the refinery processes crude oil with a capacity of 110,000 barrels per day into petroleum products such as the liquefied gases propane and butane, the chemical feedstock propylene, butylene, petrol/gasoline (E5, E10), aviation fuels, diesel (B7), light and heavy fuel oil, bitumen and sulphur. The plant technology comprises two atmospheric distillation units and two vacuum distillation units as well as a catalytic cracking unit; between 2000 and 2003 hydrogen production and desulphurisation reactors were retrofitted. The products are distributed via the company's own tank and rail tanker loading stations as well as an own fleet of road tankers; sales locations in Bavaria (Ingolstadt, Donauwörth, Nuremberg, Regensburg, Bergkirchen, Starnberg, Wolfratshausen) supply households, commerce and industry. Through a district heating project with the Ingolstadt municipal utilities, 130 MWh of waste heat per year is fed into the district heating network. The refinery employs around 400 staff and 10 apprentices and belongs to the Gunvor Group, one of the largest independent commodity traders worldwide.
